Seaoko

Seaoko is a city encompassing the entirety of the Kitsap Peninsula and the surrounding islands. It was founded three years after [[The Great Rumble]] of 2026, and one year into the [[Zalim]] Crisis.

In 2029, a mysterious benefactor purchased all of the land rights of the Kitsap Peninsula and the surrounding islands. State legislature then zoned the entire landmass into its own county of Kitsap. Interlopers of the peninsula, as well as loyal residents of Holly, rejected the new ownership of the land they called home. Their autonomy ran short, however, as a representative of The Benefactor made an appealing offer to the Holly residents: land and real estate at a premium, where they lived. Many Holly residents, including Chester and Liliana Semmet (Violet Semmet’s parents who later joined the Seaoko Tribune), accepted the offer, as their homes had been damaged or destroyed in the 2026 quake. Various other communities that remained on the peninsula, such as Crosby, were offered the same deal. This event is known as The Green Mountain Treaty.

Construction began in what would become the borough of Prabhava, with automated printing machines, androids, and human workers building the city. Seaoko followed the adage, "Rome wasn’t built in a day," but over 11 years it grew to dwarf New York City as the fastest-built city in America. It took four years (2033) for the first inhabitants to be allowed to live and work in the newly built city.

Velenques Arcology

The Velenques Arcology is a large vertical tower, named after John Alejandro Velenques, the president during the Second Korean War. Construction began alongside the Prabhava district and wasn’t completed until 2044. The structure stands five miles tall with 4,100 levels. An 800-tonne counterweight lies below the megastructure, along with guy wires spanning the city.

Seaoko Boroughs

Vashon

Vashon is the easternmost district of Seaoko, encompassing Vashon and Maury islands. Although often referred to as 'Vashon-Maury' due to their connection by a narrow isthmus, the name 'Vashon' has stuck due to legal building codes. Vashon is known for its Victorian-era architecture, contrasting with jumbotron screens that dot the main streets. Homes are often built on top of businesses, making local businesses like coffee shops, bakeries, and handicraft stores plentiful, while also making the district almost entirely walkable. Vashon houses 23% of Seaoko's middle-class residents, 80% of whom own local businesses. Its peaceful ambiance sets it apart from the more stimulating districts of Seaoko, and it reminds many of Port Townsend.

Vashon Island was historically home to the Marpole and Salish peoples. The island was named by George Vancouver in 1792 after his friend, James Vashon. Maury Island was named after Lieutenant Charles Wilkes' friend William Lewis Maury. Before the 2026 quake, Vashon was home to over 10,000 people and was known for UFO sightings, notably the Maury Island Incident on June 21, 1947.

Koreatown

Koreatown lies west of The Wharf, north of Serpent, and south of Lakes. Initially known as 'The Bumps' due to its terrain, it became Koreatown after the Second Korean War when refugees were settled there. It is bordered by highways 106, 302, and 16. Despite its crowded architecture and streets, Koreatown is famous for its authentic Korean cuisine and culture. Approximately 75% of Seaoko's Korean population resides in Koreatown, with the rest spread across Vashon and Prabhava.

The district connects Seaoko to the rest of the land via its only one-mile-wide land bridge. The Grand Pike, a vast interchange of roads and train tracks with security measures, is located here. Koreatown’s dense layout reminds many of home, and it serves as a hub for Korean culture in Seaoko.

Jaunt’s

Jaunt's District lies west of Bainbridge and south of Prabhava. It is often thought of as being divided into smaller districts like Silverdale, Chico, and Bremerton. Jaunt’s is considered the heart of modern Seaoko culture and is often likened to New York’s Times Square due to its large jumbotron screens, holographic ads, and vibrant street life. It is home to around 35% of Seaoko’s residents.

Pre-Seaoko, Silverdale was a logging community founded in 1854, and Bremerton was the largest city on the Kitsap Peninsula, planned by entrepreneur William Bremer. Bremerton became home to the largest naval shipyard in the Pacific Northwest.

Serpent/The Keys

The Serpent district lies on the Key Peninsula, south of Koreatown and west of the Island district. Known as the tech capital of Seaoko, it is home to numerous Internet, bioelectric, and android companies. Large corporations dominate the skyline, and Serpent is the center of commerce, generating millions of CrypTon Bloks annually.

The Key Peninsula was historically part of the Mosquito Fleet, a flotilla of steamboats and ferries that later became the Puget Sound ferry system. The Lakebay Marina is the only surviving relic from this era.

Holly

Holly is the westernmost district, stretching along the Great Bend of the Hood Canal. It is the largest district and home to many wealthy residents, including actors and celebrities like John Berzino and Sam McDaniel. Holly is mainly suburban but also hosts music and film studios. Many residents had lived there before Seaoko was founded, thanks to the Holly Agreement, which granted housing at a premium.

Holly was named after a community in the area and not after Hollywood in Los Angeles, as some believe. It was a small isolated community, and many old landmarks like the cemetery, school, and parts of the original dock still exist today.

Island

The Island district is a collection of Fox, Anderson, and McNeil islands, as well as Herron and Ketron islands. It is Seaoko's premier tourist destination, featuring casinos, adult entertainment, and beaches. Anderson Island serves as the heart of the district, known for its spas and lounges, while McNeil Island is famous for its federal prison, now a tourist destination. Fox Island is known for its adult entertainment, namely for the fact that the Island District is the only location in Seaoko where prostitution is legal.

Wharf

The Wharf lies on the easternmost part of the peninsula and is the industrial heart of Seaoko. It is bisected by highways 16 and 160, which facilitate commercial transport. Though primarily industrial, The Wharf has some residences and businesses catering to dockworkers. The Shoreline Bridge allows larger ships to travel between Vashon Island and the Kitsap Peninsula.

Pre-Seaoko, Port Orchard was settled in 1854 and was named Sidney until 1892 when it was renamed. Another former community, Burley, was founded as a socialist colony by the Co-operative Brotherhood in 1898, though it declined and became Burley in 1912.

The Lakes

The Lakes district lies northeast of Holly, northwest of Koreatown, and southwest of Jaunt’s. It is named for the many large lakes within the district, including Lake Tahuya, Tin Mine Lake, and Wildcat Lake. The Lakes serves as a suburban area and is regarded as a smaller, more affordable version of Holly. It is also home to many independent businesses, like Vashon.

The Lakes district comprises of several old communities that were present within the Kitsap region, such as Crosby and Seabeck.

The name Seabeck comes from the Twana words of "Far calm water" (ɬqábaqʷ, L-ka-bak-hu). Some say it also comes from Blinn's hometown of Seabec, Maine. It was founded in 1857 by Willian Adams and Marshall Blinn. The lumber in the area was abundant enough to require two mills, and a shipyard to construct boats that would haul the lumber to California. The small town would thrive for several decades until the early 1880s, when the supply and demand for lumber declined. On August 12, 1886, the steamer ''Retriever'' created a spark that set a pile of lumber on fire, which would result in a blaze that sent the entire pier in an inferno, as well as the two mills and surrounding buildings. Without jobs and housing, many inhabitants moved elsewhere, and Seabeck remained a ghost town for several decades, until efforts from two Seattleites managed to turn Seabeck into the quiet town it is still known for today. Its marina was build in 1990, until it was condemned in 2005 for poor maintenance. It took several investors and nearly decade to finally rebuild the marina in 2015, which locals said to be "about damn time".

Not much can be said about Crosby, other than its name being borrowed from Crosby, England and there being a post office in service between 1891 and 1918. It like Seabeck was also a logging community.

Some of the more popular venues in Lakes are parks like Scenic Beach which gives an amazing view of the snow-topped Olympic Mountains. The Seabeck Grocer which lies on stilts recently came back into operation. The Marina Crab Shack near it is the premier place for seafood in Seaoko.

Prabhava

Prabhava is located on the northernmost tip of the peninsula, and clearly marked by the Velenques Arcology. Prabhava has a mixture of both commercial and residential venues, which are mainly for upper class residents and workers which may both work and live in the district. It is well known for its rather 'natural' and 'utopian' architecture, being a construction requirement to have natural vegetation be grown on rooftops and flat, outdoor surfaces that are not footpaths. Many people jokingly say you can't live here and throw rocks, because most of the buildings here consist of mostly windows. This due to the use of MSC (Micro Solar Cell) embedded glass windows that power the buildings with solar light that they gather during the day, which in turn saves energy by eliminating the need for light in the day.

The Velenques Arcology, named after President John Alejandro Velenques, is the hallmark of Seaoko's skyline. It is five miles tall and 2.3 miles in area of the base of the tower. It is so tall that you can still see the tower from certain parts of California. There are 4,100 levels, 3,800 of which are publicly accessible, ranging from 10 to 20 feet in height. The "Ground Floor" of The Arcology, often called Kanigasha Park, is 115 feet high and offers a glimpse into the future of the city. The sky is projected through several hundred sheets of MSC to simulate a real sky. The Velenques Arcology is home to 4.2 million people, which is .7% of Seaoko's population of 61 million people, however it is speculated that The Velenques Arcology can house up to 10 million people. The upper levels of The Arcology are airtight, as air pressure is scarce outside. The entire megastructure is supported by guywires spanned throughout the city, in addition to an 800 tonne counterweight on the bottom.

The region of Prabhava consisted of several communities, in addition to a naval base destroyed by the military for unknown reasons. One of these communities was Poulsbo, which is still present as a small town on the shores of Liberty Bay. Poulsbo was inhabited by The Suquamish native tribe for over 5,000 years, calling the area "Place of the maples". After the Point Elliot treaty of 1855, the tribe relocated to Port Madison, and in the 1880s Poulsbo was founded by Jørgen Eliason, among several other Norwegian and Scandinavian settlers. The area reminded the immigrants of their native homelands. In 1886, the area was initially named "Paulsbo" after a village in Halden, Norway. However, authorities in Washington D.C. had misspelled the name and "Poulsbo" would stick soonafter, becoming incorporated on December 18, 1907. The Norseman Statue still stands on 17th Avenue (Formerly known as Viking Avenue) and Lindvig Way, with the engraved words: "Velkommen til Poulsbo".

Bainbridge

Bainbridge is the island to the east of Jaunt's, directly north of the Wharf, and southeast of Prabhava. Its name comes from the name of the island it occupies, Bainbridge Island. Originally known to be the second-best place to live in The United States, many fear and loathe visiting the area for many different reasons.

Bainbridge Island was once inhabited by the Suquamish Native American tribe for over a thousand years, having villages for winter and summer times. In 1792, George Vancouver explored the island, though never finding Agate Pass he charted Bainbridge Island as being connected to the peninsula. Charles Wilkes visited the island in 1841 and named it after Commodore William Bainbridge, who commanded the frigate USS ''Constitution'' during the War of 1812. Like many settlements on the peninsula, Bainbridge had plenty of cedar trees which was a boon for profit. Fourteen years later, the Suquamish signed the Point Elliott Treaty, which seceded all of their territory for a reservation at Port Madison and fishing rights. During World War 2, Japanese residents were the first to be sent to internment camps. Filipino farmers who originally assisted the Japanese farmers managed to operate successfully. They sought out the help of native families to work in the fields. Love blossomed like the strawberry flowers in the fields, which caused the births of Indo-Pinos.

After the Great Rumble of 2026, the Agate Pass bridge had collapsed, leaving many of its residents trapped on the island. After being rescued, the island was virtually empty. Original plans during the construction of Seaoko was to turn the region into Koreatown. However, the stability of the island came into question when several sinkholes were discovered during the construction of the original Koreatown, in addition to recent activity on the Toe Jam Hill Fault. This lead to building the dense city to the south, and Bainbridge would keep its name. The sudden change of plans lead to Bainbridge becoming crowded and almost claustrophobic. Some say that it mimics the feeling of the lower levels of The Arcology. Construction here is rare, leading to poor roads and run down buildings. Bainbridge is well known for its high crime rate, being the den of numerous gangs and organized crime syndicates.
